Dallas, Georgia, which is in Paulding County, is 16 miles (center to center) west of Marietta, Georgia, and 28 miles (north to north) from Atlanta, Georgia. The municipality is a part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. On May 14, 1852, the state of Georgia purchased forty acres from Garrett H. Spinks and established Dallas. On February 8, 1854, the community was incorporated as a city.

During the administration of President James Knox Polk, the city was given the name George Mifflin Dallas in honor of the vice president of the United States. Dallas was originally a meeting place for Cherokee tribes. During the American Civil War’s Atlanta Campaign, which began in May of 1864, the city became a major battleground.
