Lincoln green

Lincoln Green is the color of dyed woolen fabrics originating in Lincoln, England, a major textile town of the early Middle Ages. Lincoln dyers, known for dyeing wool with woad (Isatis tinctoria) to give it a strong blue hue, created Lincoln Green’s namesake by mixing this blue wool with yellow weld (Reseda luteola), or dyer’s broom, Genista dyeing, tint. Other colors such as ‘Coventry Blue’ and ‘Kendal Green’ have become associated with dyers in various English cities. Green Lincoln is often associated with Robin Hood and his merry men in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire.
