Green in Islam

The color green (Arabic: أخضر‎, romanized: ‘akhḍar) has several traditional associations in Islam. In the Qur’an it is associated with heaven. In the 12th century, green was chosen as the dynastic color by the Fatimids (Shias), in contrast to black, used by the Abbasids (Sunnis). Following the dynastic color of the Fatimids, green remains particularly popular in Shia iconography, but is also used extensively by Sunni states, notably on the flag of Saudi Arabia and that of Pakistan. There is also an Islamic green color with the #009000 hexagon.
